SORA: RELEASED…BUT IS IT GOOD?

SORA launched on Monday…and I spent the whole week testing it.

But i’m not sure we were ready for how complex it is.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

STORYBOARD GENERATING:

• Direct multiple actions across a sequence.

• This is where you describe the…

• Environment + characters + actions

• You want to occur at any point on the timeline.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:

• Sora is not “easy”

• It requires some conceptual thinking

• Text prompting is more complex

• It took me 2 hours to learn how to prompt

• It’s a different prompting/thought process

• Definitely glitchy + not perfect…BUT subtle details shine

• This is not a one-click solution…

• The quality is super impressive

• And some of the shots are not possible On the other platforms.

Not sure it’s worth $200…If you don’t know what you’re doing.

SORA: TEXT-2-VIDEO

In all honesty…text-2-video is much easier than image-2-video.

T2V produces a little more true to the prompt…I2V seems to not animate the images well.

WHAT TO KNOW:

It took me a while to nail this down…but it’s impressive.

I utilized a number of my Runway Text-2-Video prompts (and they worked)

BASIC PROMPT STRUCTURE: [shot type], [subject + action + motion], [environment], [style]

BASIC PROMPT EXAMPLE: A cinematic shot following a motorcyclist in a hazmat suit, driving away from us through, a thick bail jungle dirt road

QUICK THOUGHTS: 

• Multiple gens on most of these

• Not consistent - but has wow factor

• Cutting/regenerating any part of the vid

• Is a nice user feature for variation

• It can generate hard cuts to different shots

• Which is cool, but hard to control

• Used original SORA drop prompts for inspo

• Runway prompt structures seem to work also

• Start with simple prompts + build from there

• Short prompt = more Sora control

• Long prompt = more user control

Still somewhat of a slot machine if you’re not great at prompting.

Tip: Use ChatGPT to help.

JUST FOR FUN: Here’s a quick VIDEO if you’re following the “New Jersey Drone Situation”

SORA: REMIX…KINDA AWESOME

So the Remix feature allows you to in-paint and change details in a video.

It’s SORA’s most consistent feature (IMO)…and I find myself using most often.

PROCESS:

1. Generate a video

2. Select Remix

3. Select Sublte/Mild/Strong Remix

4. Change/add/remove what you want

5. Hit Submit

REMIX PROMPT (SMALL CHANGE): Change motorcycle to an {ATV/ Bulldozer/Hovercraft}

REMIX PROMPT (BIG CHANGE): Change motorcycle to a jetski, change the environment to a beautiful atoll ocean

QUICK THOUGHTS:

• Not all will be perfect

• But you can keep remixing

• This is Sora’s least glitchy function

• Sometimes you need to run the same video

• Through 2-3 iterations for big changes

• The exs. Below are larger changes

• But you can make smaller changes also

• Ex (make the road less muddy)

SORA: REMIX + BLEND…THE DIFFERENTIATOR

This is where SORA is different…and no other tool has this capability.

It opens up some crazy creative possibilities…

And you can get shots the other tools just can’t deliver.

BLEND:

• Mix two videos together

• Think keyframes with full video

• Blend strength/weight is dynamic

PROCESS:

1. Generate 2 separate videos

2. Use Blend to mix them together

3. Use Remix to fine tune
