RUNWAY: RELEASES “FRAMES”

Because we’re all family here…I had the oppo to beta test FRAMES..and provide direct feedback to the Runway team. It’s had a few iterations to get to this point.

If you like “text prompting”…Frames is a place for you.

HIGH-LEVEL REVIEW:

Overall, Frames coherence is excellent…and it’s a tool made for Ai junkies. You can’t type “award winning photo” and get something insane…it takes a little work.

For a Version 1 of a foundational model…this is a good start.

PROS:

• Coherence is the key factor

• Has a cinematic/realism streak that’s noticeable

• “Diversity” of human characters is definitely a highlight.

• “Presets” can help those who are just getting started.

• Text generation is better than the average Txt-2-Img

CONS:

• Requires detailed prompting

• Coherence is good…but you need to “describe” everything 

• Character details fade..further away from the frame

FRAMES EX PROMPT: Magazine Collage of vintage fashion from the 1960s. Vintage clippings and pop art sensibilities collide in surreal narratives. Each piece layers torn photographs, bold typography, and unexpected juxtapositions to create provocative compositions that blur the line between humor and unease.

MY ADVICE

Don’t go in there expecting Midjourney. (It’s different)

If there’s one differentiator…Runway Frames has some of the best “motion” aesthetics of any image generator I’ve tested.

MINIMAX: RELEASES

Last week Minimax released “Subject Reference”.

You can now add an image of a “character” and create multiple videos with that character.

It’s decent…but misses on some small details. (More fun than functional)

KLING: CONTROLABLE PROMPT STRUCTURES

KLING is becoming my go-to platform for AI video with it’s new V1.6 model.

The control is there…the natural motion is there…and the creative capacity is there.

And it’s really performing well on small details (w. minimal morphing)

If you’re using short prompts…you’ll still get great stuff. But try pushing it further and adding some further details.

TIPS:

• Focus on the character’s movements

• How they look/how they interact with other elements

• What’s going on in the environment

• What’s moving…what’s not moving

• V7 launch delayed to February due to data issues.

• Focus: multilingual support, coherence, character refs.

• Some image quality improvements pushed to future.

Video Functionality

• Two options: max quality (slow, costly) vs. speed (fast, cheap).

• Balancing fun use vs. pro/paid use cases.

• Considering in-house model vs. licensed APIs.

• Likely offer both fast and slow options to test demand.

3D Exploration

• Renewed interest after promising internal tests.

• Feasibility of initial feature shipping soon under review.

• Long-term goal: integrate 3D with open-world simulations.

• Interim release may allow larger batch sizes.
