My MJ Prompt Formula Process + Announcement

I don't normally do this...

Fam,

(There’s an announcement at the bottom)

In the meantime…

Prompt Formulas are the best way to be consistent (and fast) when prompting Midjourney.

BUT…

How the hell do you create them?

Let’s start with an example…

Photo-Realistic Prompt Formula

[Subject], [environment/setting],[mood/atmosphere], [specific camera/filmstock], [depth of field], [lighting conditions], [composition/perspective guidelines],[details modifiers] --[parameters]

This is simple…but it will do the trick.

Here’s what that prompt looks like filled in:

“Prompt: elderly Querecho woman, sitting outside her humble home, Fujifilm GFX 100, deep shadows, leading lines, satisfaction, fulfillment --ar 16:9”

Now, different types of photos will require different formulas.

For example…let’s look at a food photography prompt formula:

Prompt Formula: “[Composition], [Food Description/Dish], [Key Ingredients], [Environment], [Preparation], [Specific Camera], [Depth of Field], [Lighting Conditions], [Details/Modifiers] --[parameters]”

Prompt Example: Golden Spiral shot, Tuna Poke Bowl, cucumbers, edamame, sesame seeds, ponzu sauce, minimalistic restaurant, meticulous preparation, Fujifilm GFX 100, shallow depth of field, high key-lighting, fresh, bright, beautiful --ar 16:9 --s 350

Cool…not bad.

Now, let’s take a look at the process…

Prompt Formula Process:

Identify Key Elements: What elements are needed to compose the image? For example, if you want to create a mood board…what elements are needed to create a mood board?

You’ll need things like Theme/concept/style, Obejcts/Patterns, Images/Color Swatches, Emotions, Layout, Color scheme.

Quick tip: You can either research these or use tools like ChatGPT.

Organize and Structure: Put the most important elements at the front of the prompt. For example, if you want a balanced layout, make sure “balanced layout” is the first element of the prompt.

Test/Iterate: Use the /shorten feature here. It will help you analyze what MJ is responding to and what it isn’t.

Database: Keep a database of prompt formulas so you can always tap into them or edit/iterate.

Follow these steps and you’ll be able to create these at will.

If you missed it:

Why did I do this?…You really want to know…

Because it’s needed.

Getting started on Linkedin sucks.

  • What do you post?

  • Who do you target?

  • Will anyone care?

  • What actually works?

Honestly, it took me months to “get” Linkedin.

It took even longer, to find a consistent strategy. (Still don’t know if I have one)

So naturally, I wish I had something like this this months ago.

If you follow me, my part in this is small…

BUT this isn’t about me…This is about you.

And the other creators who are providing awesome value.
