I have a feeling Midjourney’s gassing up to release the alpha site (to everyone)

There have been some notable changes to the website.

(We’ll cover these below)

But it’s been a few weeks since their newest feature…so they’re working on something.

Been getting a lot of questions about this lately…

So decided to fully break it down. (For first time somehow)

Why This Is Important:

Understanding the inner workings of MJ will…

+ Make you a better prompter
+ Save you a ton of time
+ Understand what is/what’s not possible.

Meaning…It will make your life easier.

For instance…if you don’t know how MJ creates images

Conceptualizing MJ’s Brain:

Wondering how MJ’s wild brain functions (this is my best visualization of the process)

• Every word/phrase is assigned a value.

• MJ pulls it’s knowledge of those words/phrases...

• And diffuses an image together.

• “Theoretically” this is how MJ builds your image.

Now, I can’t cover it all here…it’s 36 pages. (But it will help)

Midjourney Website Updates:

So we got some updates…

And it makes me think we’re gearing up for the full launch.

Let’s take a look.

ROOMS:

• What is it: It’s a collaborative workspace.

• Who’s it available to: Users that have generated 10k+ images on MJ

• Features: You can prompt and communicate in a shared space with other users.

Thoughts:

Currently, this is chaos…and it’s kinda fun.

But you’re going to be able to create YOUR OWN room…so you can create with friends or teammates.

This feature was missing in the transition from Discord…and i’m personally a huge fan.

Rate Ideas:

• What is it: Submit ideas for Midjourney features/updates.

• Who’s it available to: Everyone.

• Features: You can submit ideas, rate other people’s ideas, and check the leaderboard.

Thoughts:

Big fan…I really love that MJ let’s us have a voice in building the product. No idea is out of bounds…and the community will vote.

Basically, we are in charge of directing the product (it’s genius).

These ideas lead to new feature updates…so go and voice some opinions or vote.

News:

• What is it: All MJ news in one place.

• Features: Announcements, Bug Updates, Office Hours

Thoughts:

Nice touch…easy to have all in one place…especially office hours.

All of this makes me think they’re working on the website to gear up for a full-launch. I could be wrong…but it’s definitely taken them too long to open this up to everyone.

Reviving Old Generations:

Let’s be honest…we all had some gems from V4/V5.

Sometimes you just want to bring them back.

This might seem like “common sense”…but I’ve been asked this a lot.

Here’s the Process:

1. Find Old V4/V5 Images

2. Copy the prompt

3. Change Version parameter to (--v 6)

4. Use the old image as SREF + Image Prompt + SW

5. Use high levels of --iw (2-3).

This will basically “remaster” the older images.

Seriously…there’s something about V4…never gets old.

Here are Office Hours Notes from 4/17:

Model Personalization Feature

• Will use your personal preferences to customize missing details, aligning content more closely with your individual style.

• So less Midjourney filling in the blanks of your prompts

• Timeline: Taking longer than anticipated - no estimated release date

Website - Creation Rooms - Discussed above.

Version 6.1:

• Working on better image quality, better coherence (hands, bodies), better text quality, all are working individually.

• Timeline: estimated release about 2 weeks (not a solid date)

Version 7:

• There’s a clear roadmap. You can expect better prompt understanding, upscalers, and upgraded aesthetics.

• Working on more features e.g. color reference.

• After the website’s social features and V6.1 are released, the MidJourney team will shift their main focus to V7.

• Timeline: No estimates on release date.

3D and Video - Continuing work on both.

Collabs:

• Will roll out collabs with other companies soon (I’m looking at you Twitter…X…w/e you call it)
